As reported by the Telegram channel MilitaryRussia.En, according to the documentation from the public procurement website, JSC "Corporation "Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering" (MIT) is preparing for the serial production of a new strategic combat missile system "Yars-M", at least in a mobile version of the complex 15P180 with a mobile autonomous launcher (APU) 15U200 and solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile 15ZH80. The new Yars-M complex is a further development of the Yars missile system and will be equipped with individual breeding units (BIR).
The scheme of the "launch vehicle with a modular upper stage III" from the article by M.D. Kryuchkov "Methodology for optimizing the parameters of modification of a launch vehicle with a modular upper stage III", published in the Bulletin of the Moscow Aviation Institute (2020. Vol. 27. No. 2) (c) via Telegram Channel MilitaryRussia.RuWithin the framework of the production re-equipment program, the capacities of JSC Votkinsky Zavod (production of ballistic missiles), JSC FNPC Titan-Barricades (production of APU), FSUE FCDT Soyuz (production of propulsion system) and FSUE NPTSAP (production of missile control systems and BIR) are being modernized.
According to the documents posted on the public procurement website:
1. It is likely that the wheeled chassis of the APU 15U200 of the Yars-M complex will remain the same - MZKT-79221, since the overall dimensions and weight of the new 15J80 rocket should not differ significantly from the previous Topol-M/Yars missiles, and the prospects of the domestic ones developed within the framework of the Platform-O ROC self-propelled wheeled chassis with electric transmission are vague, and after the failure of the display of the KamAZ-7850 (K7850) wheeled chassis at Army-2018, there was no news of success within this ROC.
2. The first stage of the 15J80 ballistic missile will be unified with the previous versions of the complex - the 15C551/15C552 stages with the 15D426 propulsion system.
3. The second stage of the new 15X550 rocket has a 15D427 propulsion system, and perhaps this stage differs from the second stage of the Yars conventional rocket complex.
4. The classic third stage and the dilution stage of the 15J80 rocket are absent, instead of them a modular third stage with individual dilution units (BIR) is used. The number of BIR in the module is currently not reliably known.
The appearance of a ballistic missile with a modular third stage is given in the article by the employee of JSC "Corporation "Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering" M.D. Kryuchkov "Methodology for optimizing the parameters of modification of a launch vehicle with a modular upper stage III", published in the Bulletin of the Moscow Aviation Institute (2020. Vol. 27. No. 2).
Judging by the scheme given in the article with the layout of the "launch vehicle" (PH), it has four modules with a "payload". It is not known what relation the given shape of the PH has to the 15J80 rocket, especially since the PH in the diagram is depicted in one diameter of the body, and the Topol-M rocket /"Yars" are arranged in two body diameters.
The modular layout of the third stage of the 15J80 rocket with BIR has a wide range of payload configuration options and allows each combat unit to be placed on its own individual trajectory. The disadvantage of this scheme is a much lower density of the layout of the third stage, as a result of which the rocket loses energy. If the 15J80 rocket is unified in the first-stage propulsion system with the previous missiles of the family, then the APU chassis and the dimensions of the mine launcher impose restrictions on the growth of the length of the rocket, and it seems logical to compensate for the loss of energy by switching to a single diameter of the rocket body (as shown in the PH diagram).
From the bmpd side, we point out that the decision to develop an upgraded version of the Yars strategic missile system under the Yars-M cipher was publicly announced in September 2012.
