TSAMTO, May 10. The Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri continues negotiations with Indonesia regarding the terms of entry into force of the contract for the construction of FREMM-class frigates.
According to Shephard Media, despite the signing of a contract for the supply of FREMM frigates to Indonesia in June 2021, the contract has not yet entered into force. This was announced to the publication on the eve of the IMDEX Asia 2023 exhibition in Singapore by a representative of Fincantieri.
According to a corporate official from Fincantieri, the company has also held several rounds of talks with representatives of the Indonesian defense ministry on other maritime projects, including submarines.
As previously reported by TSAMTO, the Italian company Fincantieri on June 10, 2021 announced the signing of a contract with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense for the supply of six new FREMM-class frigates, as well as two modernized Maestrale-class frigates from the Italian Navy. The cost of the order, the delivery time of the ships, as well as the degree of participation of Indonesian companies in the project were not disclosed at that time.
As it was announced at the time, Fincantieri will act as the general contractor of the delivery program. The construction of frigates will provide employment for several Italian shipyards of the group in the coming years, as well as other companies in the sector, including Leonardo, numerous small and medium-sized companies. The project involves cooperation with the Indonesian company PT PAL.
It was planned that the modernization and preparation for the sale of two ships of the Maestrale class, which Fincantieri will acquire from the Italian Navy after their decommissioning, will also be carried out in Italy.
The Bergamini-class frigate (FREMM) in the multipurpose version is a ship with a length of 144 m, a width of 19.7 m and a total displacement of about 6700 tons. The CODLAG-type power plant, which includes an AVIO–GE 2500+G4 gas turbine with a capacity of 32 MW, allows you to develop a cruising speed of 16 knots and a maximum of 27.5 knots. The range at a speed of 15 knots is about 6000 nautical miles, autonomy is 45 days, the crew is 145 people.
The ship is armed with 127/64-mm and 76/62-mm artillery launchers, two eight-container SYLVER A50 VPU with 16 Aster-15 and Aster-30 missiles, two 25-mm DUMV, PU with 8 Teseo/Otomat Mk.2/A, two three-tube 324-mm torpedo tubes with MU-90 torpedoes. Two EH-101/NH-90 helicopters can be placed on the deck of the frigate.
For reference:In March 2021, the planning division of the Ministry of Defense of Indonesia approved the final list, including four applicants, for the implementation of the program for the purchase of new warships for the country's Navy, which should follow the acquisition of the Martadinata-class URO frigates (SIGMA-10514).
The final list includes: the improved version of the SIGMA-10514 frigate proposed by the Dutch company Damen, the 30FFM class frigate of the Japanese shipbuilding company Mitsui, the Bergamini class frigate (FREMM) of the Italian Fincantieri and the Arrowhead-140 frigate of the consortium headed by Babcock International.
The new ships are to replace the Ahmad Yani-class frigates (Ahmad Yani / Van Speijk), which were delivered to Indonesia from the Dutch Navy in the 1980s. It was assumed that the total cost of the program for the supply of three frigates would be $ 1.5 billion. excluding the cost of weapons and combat systems.
