Russia has developed a special coating for composites Scientists from Perm NIPU have announced the development of a new protective coating with shock-resistant properties, designed to be applied to aircraft parts based on composite materials.
The development is characterized by a thin protective layer with a low mass, capable of withstanding temperatures in the range from -60 ° C to a fairly serious 250 ° C.
As is known, polycomposites are used in the manufacture of a number of parts in the aircraft industry, but these materials do not resist high—speed shock loads (for example, a collision with a flying bird), and the promising development of Perm scientists should solve this problem. The basis of the proposed special coating is ammonia derivatives, as well as isocyanate, on the basis of which polyurethane is produced. The thickness of the developed coating does not exceed 0.3 mm and its application to the surface of aircraft elements will not lead to a cardinal weighting of the entire structure.
Russia has developed a special coating for composites In addition, the first coating tests have already been carried out on the bodies of aircraft engines made of composites, which showed an increase in the ballistic limit of the structure by 18.5%, while the mass increased by a fairly acceptable 6.5%. According to the Perm NIPU, the new development can be used not only in aviation — it is suitable for use in other directions — with this coating it will be possible to process windshields and car bodies, hulls of motor boats and small boats, etc.
