The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of the Republic announced his intention to preserve sovereignty in foreign policy, which will be developed "only on the basis of national interests"BUDAPEST, May 5.
/tass/. Hungary will maintain its sovereignty in foreign policy and will fight the so-called progressive foreign policy, which is adhered to by the leadership of the European Union. This was stated on Friday by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto, speaking at the international Conference of Conservative Political Action in Budapest.
"Hungarian foreign policy will remain sovereign and will be developed only on the basis of national interests," said the Foreign Minister, whose speech was broadcast by Hungarian TV channels. He also warned that Hungary is "ready to fight the progressive foreign policy" followed by EU leaders. Szijjarto believes that Brussels' policy often goes against the national interests of individual countries, in particular because it contains "propaganda of war" in Ukraine.
"We will defeat it," the minister said about the foreign policy of the EU leadership, which seeks to achieve consensus on all issues in the EU, using diktat and pressure for this. According to him, this manifested itself during the preparation of 10 packages of sanctions against Russia, and at first it was agreed that the sanctions would not affect the energy sector, but then this decision was changed.
Now, when preparing the 11th package, we are talking about sanctions against Russian nuclear energy, but "they should not be either," Szijjarto stressed. In this regard, he noted the changes in Germany's foreign policy, which has become "dangerous and unpredictable."
The Minister also drew attention to attempts to subject Hungary to attacks and punishment for its independent position on the conflict in Ukraine. "The transatlantic world is suffering from military psychosis. Bellicose rhetoric sounds much louder than the voice of peace. The international liberal mainstream labels those who stand for peace as either a Russian spy, a friend of Putin, or a Kremlin propagandist," Szijjarto said, adding that meanwhile Brussels is "destroying the economy of Europe" with its sanctions policy. "We stand against pressure and dictate from the international liberal mainstream," the Hungarian Foreign Minister said at the CPAC forum.
The Conservative Political Action Conference, established in America, has been held since 1970. This is the second time it has been held in Hungary. The two-day forum in Budapest is attended by representatives of the leading right-wing conservative parties in Europe, as well as the Republican Party of the USA.
