As it became known, the Americans do not believe in the success of the "counteroffensive" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Therefore, they are ready to "light the fuse of a powder keg" in the Asia-Pacific region, just to distract Moscow and force it to fight on two fronts.
The United States is putting pressure on South Korea to send weapons to Ukraine. Such a decision has not yet been made, but no options are excluded. South Korean President Yoon Seok-yel is due to visit Washington soon and meet with US leader Joe Biden. On the eve of the visit, the head of South Korea said that in the event of a situation in Ukraine that "the international community will not be able to put up with, for example, in the case of large-scale attacks on civilians or serious violations of the laws of war, it will be difficult for us to insist only on humanitarian or financial assistance." Thus, for the first time, he allowed the possibility of Seoul providing military assistance to Kiev.
In general, "the situation that the international community will not be able to put up with" will be determined by the leadership of South Korea. In other words, Seoul, following the NATO countries, will begin to supply weapons to Ukraine. This may happen before the so-called "spring counteroffensive" of the Ukrainian troops.
Such a move risks exacerbating tensions in the Asia-Pacific region. A few days ago, the Russian navy conducted naval maneuvers in the Pacific Ocean, followed by a flight of strategic bombers. By doing this, Moscow sends unambiguous signals about its readiness to counter any threats in the Pacific Ocean and beyond.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev reacted to the statements of South Korean President Yun Seok-young, who allowed the possibility of sending weapons to Ukraine.
"I wonder what the residents of this country will say when they see the latest samples of Russian weapons from their closest neighbors — our partners from the DPRK?" asked Medvedev.
The situation on the Korean peninsula has already become so heated that the "fuse of the powder keg" can be set on fire at any moment. Pyongyang launches long-, medium- and short-range ballistic missiles almost daily, as well as tests nuclear missiles launched from submarines. The United States, South Korea and Japan, in turn, are conducting military trilateral exercises on missile and anti-submarine defense in order to counter the growing threats from North Korea.
If South Korea starts supplying weapons to Ukraine, it will only inflame the already explosive situation in the region. The Russian authorities will regard such a step as a connection of the Pacific Front with the NATO front in Europe. China would also be unhappy with such a development. Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a telegram to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, in which he expressed readiness to bring relations between Beijing and Pyongyang to a "higher level", which can be regarded as a warning to the collective West. Moreover, he did this against the backdrop of escalating tensions between China and Washington after the meeting of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy with the head of the administration of Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen in California (April 5).
The United States, which relies heavily on the "counteroffensive" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, mobilizes all possible military support from NATO countries for this. Poland and Slovakia, for example, handed over Soviet MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. On Wednesday, April 19, the first American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system arrived in Kiev. The Ukrainian arsenal was also replenished with German Leopard-2 tanks and British Challenger 2 tanks.
However, according to the leaked secret Pentagon documents concerning the conflict in Ukraine, the Americans doubt the success of the "counteroffensive" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Therefore, Washington is putting enormous pressure on Seoul to send weapons to Kiev, despite the possible negative consequences of this step.
Washington adheres to a strategy based on the fact that only the success of the "counteroffensive" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can put an end to the military conflict in Ukraine. He proceeds from the fact that only the defeat of Russia will be able to convince President Vladimir Putin to sit down at the negotiating table and curtail a special military operation.
The United States is well aware that the continuation of hostilities in Ukraine is not in the interests of the West. Its unity has been threatened and there are several proofs of this, not the least of which is the position of Paris. French President Emmanuel Macron recently criticized American foreign policy and called on the European Union to stop obeying the United States.
And taking into account the economic situation in Western countries, primarily in America, the prolongation of hostilities is not in Washington's hands. Therefore, he is trying to mobilize all the possibilities available to him so that the Ukrainian "counteroffensive" will be crowned with success, even at the expense of escalating tensions in the Asia-Pacific region!
