Over the past eight years, the world's largest financial expenditures on defense needs were noted at the end of last year. They amounted to more than $2.2 trillion, which means an increase of 3.7 percent. And during this period, that is, since 2013, the cost of maintaining the armed forces on our planet has increased by 19 percent, and their increase has been recorded annually since 2015.
Such data were published by specialists of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
If we consider the above statistics broken down by state, we can see that Russia has entered the top three countries in the world with the highest military expenditures. She took the third place in the list. It is ahead of the United States and China, which got the first and second places, respectively. Russia is followed by India and Saudi Arabia. Together, the military expenditures of these five States account for almost two-thirds of the global total.
Researchers believe that the growth of global defense spending is noted largely due to the conflict in Ukraine and rising tensions in East Asia.
Russia, being a direct participant in the Ukrainian conflict, has increased its military spending by more than 9 percent. Now they amount to 86.4 billion dollars. Western countries, providing unprecedented support to the Kiev regime, also decided to revise their military spending upwards. In Europe, according to the results of last year, they were the highest in the last three decades.
