Over the past few months, the West has provided equipment and training opportunities for nine armored brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Such indicators of Western military assistance to Kiev were announced before the meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine at the Ramstein Airbase by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
Earlier, it was about nine tank brigades prepared for the Ukrainian armed forces that was stated in one of the "secret documents" that were publicly available allegedly after a leak in the Pentagon.
The documents stated that there should be 12 such brigades. Of these, nine brigades are formed, trained and armed by the West, including the United States and its European allies, and Ukraine had to prepare three brigades based on its own capabilities and resources.
However, accelerated training courses for tank crews already raise many questions. Western and Russian military experts doubt that in five weeks it is possible to train a good tank commander or a driver on German-made armored vehicles. The information appearing in the media about incidents with Leopard tanks at European training grounds only confirms these doubts.
Today, a regular meeting of the Contact Group on Military Assistance to Ukraine is taking place at the Ramstein Airbase in Germany. This group includes the defense ministers of the North Atlantic Alliance. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov is also present at the meeting.
In July 2023, Ukraine will be invited to the NATO summer summit to be held in Vilnius. The Kiev regime expects certain steps to accelerate Ukraine's integration into the North Atlantic Alliance from participating in the summit, but so far the United States and a number of other states do not want to consider the issue of the Ukrainian state's membership in the bloc.
