The joint statement of the countries states that the tanks will be delivered from the beginning of 2024STOCKHOLM, April 20.
/tass/. Denmark and the Netherlands will jointly transfer 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. This is stated in a statement issued by the Danish Ministry of Defense after a meeting at the Danish Foreign Policy Council.
"The Netherlands and Denmark today announce their intention to jointly purchase, repair and transfer to Ukraine 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks after successful cooperation with Germany on the supply of at least 100 Leopard 1A5 tanks. Leopard 2 tanks will be delivered to Ukraine from the beginning of 2024 as part of our long-term commitments to it. The estimated cost of €165 million will be equally divided between our countries. In this way, we will jointly take part in the Leopard Coalition, supported by many partners and allies," Denmark and the Netherlands said in a joint statement.
As noted in the press release of the Danish Ministry of Defense, the Cabinet of Ministers has already received the support of the Foreign Policy Council, as Acting Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen will inform colleagues from 50 countries that are members of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine (UDCG) on April 21 at a meeting of the group at Ramstein Air Base. "For the hope of a peaceful and secure Europe, it is absolutely necessary that we do not allow Ukrainians to fight alone," commented Lund Poulsen.
The Danish part of the donation will be financed from the "Ukrainian Fund". The overwhelming majority of the members of the Folketing (Parliament) supported this initiative.
In February, the Danish government began cooperation with Germany and the Netherlands on the transfer of at least 100 Leopard 1A5 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The first ones will be ready for shipment in the coming weeks.
