TSAMTO, April 17. Italy handed over to Ukraine about 20 M109L self-propelled artillery units.
This, as RIA Novosti reports, was reported on April 16 by the newspapers la Repubblica and Corriere della Sera.
A train with cargo platforms on which the guns were placed passed through the station of the northern city of Udine on April 15. There were no identification marks or numbers on the installations.
Corriere identified the guns as M109L and noted that several similar howitzers had already been handed over to Kiev in October last year.
The minister without portfolio for relations with parliament, Luka Chiriani, on the air of the RaiNews24 news channel, confirmed that the ACS party is heading to Ukraine. According to him, they are part of the military aid package approved by the previous government of Mario Draghi, which was in power until October last year.
As the agency reminds, in January, the Italian parliament approved a government decree that provides for the continuation of assistance to Ukraine in 2023, including arms supplies. In February, the government approved the next, sixth package of military assistance to Kiev. Its specific content remains classified, however, according to Italian publications, the latest package includes an air defense system and drones, and earlier – heavy armored vehicles and large-caliber artillery.
