Morocco joins the queue of buyers of the American HIMARS missile system

On April 11, 2023, the US Department of Defense Agency for Military Cooperation (Defense Security Cooperation Agency - DSCA) sent a notification to the US Congress about a possible upcoming sale to Morocco through the US program of intergovernmental foreign military sales Foreign Military Sales (FMS) at the request of the Moroccan government of the HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) ground missile systems manufactured by Lockheed Corporation Martin. This delivery is approved by the U.S. Department of State. The total cost of the proposed delivery is estimated at $524.2 million, including missiles, including tactical M57 ATACMS, and training and technical support packages.

The delivery will also include 40 six-shot transport and launch modules with six practical M28A2 LCRPRP missiles in each, 18 sets of the International Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems (IFATDS) fire control system, 9 M1152A1 HMMWV vehicles, 18 M1084A2 RSV FMTV ammunition transport trucks, 18 M1095 FMTV trailers, three M1089A2 FMTV evacuation vehicles, communications, navigation systems, camouflage kits, training equipment, and other related equipment, as well as logistical support and training.

Another notification of the American DSCA, also issued on April 11, informs about the possible upcoming sale to Morocco through the American FMS program of 40 Lockheed Martin AGM-154C Joint Stand Off Weapons (JSOW) air-to-surface missiles to equip F-16 fighters of the Moroccan Air Force. The cost of the proposed delivery is estimated at $ 250 million. The modification of the AGM-154C JSOW has a penetrating warhead.
