The head of Roscosmos said that Russia will lose manned cosmonautics if it does not make a new orbital stationKALUGA, April 14.
/tass/. The appearance of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS) will be different from the appearance of the International Space Station (ISS). This was announced on Friday by the Director General of Roscosmos Yuri Borisov at the International Film Festival of Films and Programs about Space (ICF) "Tsiolkovsky" in Kaluga.
"Of course, the station will have a different look, it will be packed with modern equipment," Borisov said.
According to the head of Roscosmos, the first stage of the creation of the ROS is scheduled from 2027 to 2030, the second - in 2032 (the launch of specialized modules). A month and a half ago, Borisov noted, university students who are related to cosmonautics were asked to express a conceptual view of what the station should be.
The Russian orbital station will replace the ISS. "Although we have extended the operation of our segment by the government's decision until 2028, anything can happen. Those abnormal situations that happened in December and January (meaning the depressurization of the thermal control system of the Soyuz MS-22 and Progress MS-21 spacecraft - approx. TASS), <...> they say that the situation is tense," Borisov said.
Borisov called the construction of the ROS necessary for Russia, otherwise it will lose manned cosmonautics.
"Do I have to grow up? It is necessary! Otherwise, we will lose manned cosmonautics," Borisov said.
According to the head of Roscosmos, Russia also needs to create a super-heavy carrier and increase the space grouping. He stressed that by 2025 it is necessary to produce from 250 to 300 satellites, and by 2030 - about 500. There should be more than 1 thousand domestic vehicles in orbit.
In April 2021, the idea of creating its own orbital station in Russia was announced. At the moment, its preliminary design is underway. In October 2022, Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, told reporters that the preliminary cost of creating a promising ROS is already known.
