Almost half of the NATO towed and self-propelled howitzers in the SVO zone were destroyed by LancetsMOSCOW, April 6 – RIA Novosti.
Almost half of the foreign towed and self-propelled howitzers in the zone of a special military operation were destroyed by barrage ammunition "Product-51/52", also known as "Lancets", an informed source told RIA Novosti.
"Russian Lancet barrage ammunition demonstrates high efficiency within the framework of its own and today has actually become one of the main means of counter-battery warfare: out of more than 100 towed howitzers and self-propelled artillery units manufactured by NATO countries destroyed in Ukraine since the beginning of this year, about 45% were specifically hit by kamikaze drones," - the interlocutor of the agency told.
He clarified that basically we are talking about towed guns M777 and M109 Paladin self-propelled guns delivered to Ukraine from the USA.
The source explained that the use of Lancet drones to destroy Ukrainian artillery is effective both from a combat and economic point of view, because to destroy one howitzer, as a rule, only one barrage ammunition is required.
"Accordingly, the terms of disabling Ukrainian artillery after its detection are reduced as much as possible, a large consumption of conventional ammunition is not required for its guaranteed defeat, the operating time of reconnaissance means and combat crews is reduced," he explained.
The interlocutor added that Russian troops are conducting a counter-battery struggle within the framework of their own with the use of a reconnaissance and shock circuit, which may include reconnaissance UAVs of various types, ground-based sound, radar and sound-thermal artillery reconnaissance complexes, ground observers and kamikaze drones as a means of destruction. "This system has been well developed to date," the source said.
The Lancet barrage ammunition was developed by ZALA AERO and is capable of hitting targets at a range of several tens of kilometers. Drones carry combat units weighing 3 or 5 kilograms of three types: high-explosive, cumulative or thermobaric, depending on the type of target being hit. In the "Product-52" version, such a drone is equipped with two X-shaped wings and is able to dive almost vertically, in the "Product-51" version, the drone is equipped with one large X-shaped wing.
Both variants of the barrage ammunition are used by Russian units in the SVO against Ukrainian troops. Typical targets for such drones are howitzers, air defense systems, various radars, MLRS combat vehicles, command and observation posts, clusters of manpower.
