Joint Moldovan-Romanian artillery exercises "Fire Shield-2023" have started at the Smyrdan training ground in the Romanian county of Galac. This information was confirmed by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Moldova.
According to the Defense Ministry of the country, these exercises have been held annually by Chisinau and Bucharest since 2015 and are included in the training plan of the National Army of the Republic for 2023.
According to the commander of the contingent of the National Army, Lieutenant Colonel Anatoly Kozhushnyan, a unit of the motorized rifle brigade of the Moldovan Armed Forces "Stefan the Great" together with artillery structures of the Romanian Ground Forces is taking part in them.
Recall that at the end of March, military exercises of the Moldovan special forces units Joint Combined Exchange Training-2023 (JCET) began on the territory of the Republic of Moldova (RM), in which military personnel of the US Army, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Romania are also involved. According to the country's military department, they will last until April 7. During the maneuvers, participants perform advanced combat shooting, parachute jumps, conduct field exercises and exchange experience, which will contribute to improving the operational compatibility of troops among the military contingents participating in the events.
As the Transnistrian authorities have repeatedly noted, the military exercises of the National Army of the Republic of Moldova with its "partners" in NATO that have become more frequent recently cannot but cause concern in Tiraspol, since all this leads to an escalation of tension in the region.
