TSAMTO, April 5. India will soon test the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system purchased in Russia.
This, as RIA Novosti reports, was reported by the Ani agency, citing a high-ranking source in the country's Defense Ministry.
"Very soon it is planned to fire at a fast–moving aerial target," the representative of the Indian Ministry of Defense stressed.
He noted that the ammunition of the Russian S-400 air defense system includes missiles that can shoot down fighters or cruise missiles at a maximum range of 400 km. The representative of the ministry added that the Indian armed forces conducted the launch during the acceptance of these complexes in Russia, but the system has not yet been tested in India.
As the agency reminds, Russia and India signed a contract for the supply of five regimental sets of S-400 air defense systems in October 2018. The cost of the order was $5.43 billion. India has become the third foreign buyer of these complexes after China and Turkey and has already adopted the first two regimental sets.
According to Indian media, the systems are deployed so that they can cover the Ladakh sector bordering China, as well as the country's border in the state of West Bengal.
In February, Russian Ambassador to Delhi Denis Alipov said that India will soon receive a third regimental set of S-400 air defense systems.
