/tass/. By the beginning of April, Ukraine had received 57 Western tanks out of 293 that were promised to it by Western countries at the moment, it follows from TASS calculations based on official statements of the states supplying combat vehicles.
Thus, 19% of the promised Western-made tanks have been transferred to Kiev so far. As Russian President Vladimir Putin noted at the end of March, Russia plans to produce and modernize more than 1,600 tanks, and the total number of tanks in the Russian army will be three times more than in the Ukrainian one.
• Germany announced on January 25 that it would send Ukraine 14 Leopard 2A6 tanks ("Leopard-2A6"), and on February 24 promised to allocate four more vehicles of this type. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced on March 27 that the Ukrainian side had already received these tanks.
• In addition, Berlin approved the delivery to Kiev of 178 Leopard 1A5 tanks ("Leopard-1A5") from the reserves of the defense industry. The old tanks will be supplied, in particular, jointly with Denmark and the Netherlands.
• In total, the German side plans to send more than 100 tanks to Ukraine by the first or second quarter of 2024.
• Berlin has decided to issue permits to other countries for the re-export of German-made tanks. After that, several European countries - Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Finland - announced their readiness to transfer the Leopards to Ukraine. At the moment, Norway (eight tanks) and Portugal (three) have transferred combat vehicles.
• Poland, which even before receiving permission from Germany intended to send tanks to Ukraine, announced the transfer of 14 Leopards of the 2A4 modification. Four of these combat vehicles were delivered to Ukrainian territory at the end of February, the rest - in early March.
• On January 15, Great Britain announced its intention to transfer 14 Challenger 2 tanks (Challenger-2) to the Ukrainian military. Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said on March 28 that British-made tanks would soon begin performing combat missions.
• On January 25, the United States, simultaneously with Germany, announced a decision to transfer 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, but not from Pentagon stocks, but from manufacturers. The White House then pointed out that the deliveries "will take many months."
• At the end of March, the Pentagon clarified that Washington would provide Kiev with M1A1 series Abrams from the presence of the American army, which could be delivered by the fall.
• Canada decided to allocate eight Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, the first batch was delivered to Poland by March 15. It is assumed that in Europe, the Canadian military will train Ukrainian tank control, after which armored vehicles will go directly to Ukraine.
• At the end of February, Spain announced that at the end of March or early April it would deliver six Leopards of the 2A4 modification to Kiev. Their arrival on Ukrainian territory has not yet been announced.
• Also at the end of February, the Swedish authorities announced plans to transfer tanks to Ukraine "as soon as possible". We are talking about ten combat vehicles corresponding to the Leopard 2A5 modification.
• On March 23, Finland approved another package of military assistance to Ukraine, which included three Leopard 2 tanks. Delivery dates were not specified.
• The French authorities have allocated the so-called AMX-10RC wheeled tanks to Ukraine, but so far they have refrained from providing the main battle tanks of their production - Leclerc.
• On January 22, French President Emmanuel Macron, answering a question about the possibility of transferring Leclercs, said that "nothing is excluded," but "supplies should not lead to escalation" or damage the defense capability of France itself.
