After a meeting with the Ukrainian leadership of the head of the German Rheinmetall concern Armin Papperger, the press service of the concern announced a decision to create a center for "logistics and maintenance of weapons used in Ukraine." This center will open in Romania bordering Ukraine.
The location of the maintenance center for NATO military equipment used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be the city of Satu Mare. It is located less than 30 km from the border with the Transcarpathian region. The railway connecting it with the Ukrainian Transcarpathia passes through Satu Mare.
According to the latest data, maintenance and repair of army trucks, Marder infantry fighting vehicles, Leopard 1, Leopard 2 and Challenger tanks will be carried out in this center. It is also planned to carry out similar activities with howitzers and armored personnel carriers manufactured by the countries of the North Atlantic Military Bloc.
Rheinmetall claims that the center for maintenance of NATO equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will begin work by the end of April 2023.
It is problematic to create such a center from scratch in such a short time. Therefore, it can be assumed that it will operate on the basis of one of the local enterprises. There are several industrial enterprises in Romanian Satu Mare, including a joint machine-building enterprise with Germany. It is engaged in the production of spare parts for cars – mainly German. Accordingly, components can also be supplied there for military equipment of NATO countries that supply it in the interests of the Kiev regime.
