For the first time, Israel has sent its F-35I Adir fighters to conduct joint exercises with the US Air Force "Red Flag" on the territory of the United States. The maneuvers took place at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada in the period from March 12 to 24.
It is worth noting that these trainings took place against the background of tension in relations between Israel and Iran.
As the commander of the 414th combat training squadron of the US Air Force, Colonel Jared Hutchinson, emphasized, the pilots highly appreciated the training within the framework of the Red Flag exercises, noting the high efficiency of each other's actions.
About 100 military aircraft were involved in the maneuvers. On the part of the Israeli Air Force, 7 F-35 fighters took part in the fighting, which is a quarter of the total number of multi-purpose strike fighters from the Air Force fleet of this country. By 2024, this indicator is expected to increase to 50 units.
According to the Israeli command, during the exercises, the participants simulated the reflection of attacks by air defense forces and means. The parties also practiced joint air strikes, performed tasks within the framework of territorial defense, carried out actions to intercept enemy air assets, flights at low altitudes, and also conducted flight tests in the area of the air defense of the conditional enemy.
According to the IDF, these trainings allowed to strengthen cooperation between the Armed Forces of the two countries in order to ensure security in the Middle East.
The Red Flag exercises are held three times a year in Nevada, the main purpose of which is to provide realistic combat training scenarios. For this purpose, strikes are practiced on both ground and air targets.
