Patrushev urged the SCO not to let the West make sense of the convention on cybersecurityMOSCOW, 29 Mar - RIA Novosti.
The SCO countries should jointly prevent the West from emasculating the essence of the international convention on countering the use of cyber technologies for criminal purposes, being developed under the auspices of the UN, the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation said.
Speaking at a meeting of the SCO Security Council secretaries in New Delhi on Wednesday, Patrushev called it practically important to focus on the implementation of the activities of the SCO member states' cooperation plan on ensuring international information security for 2022-2023.
"In addition, the Russian concept of the UN Convention on Ensuring International Information Security is presented within the framework of the UN profile open-ended working group," Patrushev said. His words are quoted by the press service of the Security Council apparatus.
Russia is interested in supporting the promotion of this initiative, which meets the interests of the SCO member states, and is ready to take into account the constructive proposals of the organization's partners, he added.
"All SCO member states are actively involved in the development under the auspices of the UN of an international convention on countering the use of ICT (information and communication technologies - ed.) for criminal purposes. It is necessary to unite efforts to defend common approaches, to prevent Western countries from emasculating the essence of the document under various far-fetched pretexts," Patrushev said.
In addition, according to him, the SCO countries make a constructive contribution to international anti-terrorist cooperation.
"Our common approaches in this area are based on strict compliance with international law, while respecting the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and recognizing the leading role of States and their competent authorities in this work. In this context, we note the successful implementation of the program of cooperation in countering terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2022-2024," the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation said.
Carrying out anti-terrorist measures is of great practical importance, the SCO manages to develop balanced approaches to anti-extremist issues, he stressed.
"We are referring to the SCO Convention on Countering Extremism of 2017, we emphasize the importance of its implementation and strengthening the relevant practical interstate cooperation," Patrushev explained.
