/tass/. The Ukrainian leadership demonstrates its readiness to intervene in the situation in Transnistria, including with the use of force. Russia will be guided by the security mandate of its military personnel, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with TASS on Tuesday.
"The Ukrainian leadership also plays its extremely negative, subversive role, which, in violation of its status as a mediator in the "5+2" format, unequivocally took the side of Chisinau, in every possible way supports its militant aspirations, destructive aspirations towards Transnistria, digs defensive structures, fortifications between Ukraine and Transnistria and in every possible way demonstrates its readiness to intervene in this process, including the use of force," the minister said.
"I want to say once again that Russia is responsible for security in Transnistria in full compliance with the mandate that our servicemen have. We will be guided by this mandate," Lavrov stressed.
Russian peacekeepers were introduced into the combat zone on July 29, 1992 in accordance with the Agreement on the Principles of Peaceful Settlement of the Armed Conflict in the Transnistrian Region of the Republic of Moldova, signed on July 21, 1992 by the Presidents of Russia and Moldova in the presence of the leader of Transnistria. They are currently maintaining peace in the Dniester security separation zone together with the Blue Helmets of Moldova, Transnistria and a group of military observers from Ukraine.
