The last armed conflict where T-54B medium tanks were used was the war for Nagorno-Karabakh, which broke out in the fall of 2020. Then these vehicles, like the T-55, were used by the Azerbaijani army.In total, about a hundred units of such equipment turned out to be on the front line, which was returned from storage bases, and the crews were equipped with reservists called up from the reserve.
Such tanks were used in secondary sectors of the front, where offensive actions were not conducted, and the sides only exchanged fire.
"Fifty-fourth" and "Fifty-fifth" in fact, acted as self-propelled artillery installations. Their D-10T2S rifled guns can hit targets at a maximum range of up to 15,000 meters using various types of high-explosive shells.
Moreover, the shooting was conducted because of high earthen ramparts, which reduced the risk of getting under return fire. Compared with towed or self-propelled artillery, such "self-propelled guns" have one advantage - quite powerful, compared, for example, with 2S1 "Carnation", armor.
Although there were no losses, it is known, at least, about the defeat with the subsequent fire of one T-55 in the Aghdam direction. All four crew members survived, however, one was hospitalized with burns, where he was successfully treated.
