The head of the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic, Gergei Guiyash, believes that such a step "does not lead in the direction of de-escalation" of the Ukrainian conflictBUDAPEST, March 23.
/tass/. Hungary considers the UK's decision to supply depleted uranium shells to Ukraine to be wrong. This was stated on Thursday at a meeting with journalists by the head of the Office of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gergei Guyash.
Such a step "does not lead in the direction of de-escalation" of the Ukrainian conflict, said Guiyash, who has the rank of minister in the government. According to him, Hungary would not recommend using depleted uranium ammunition to anyone. "Hungary does not support any actions that could lead to an escalation of the war," the head of the Prime Minister's office stressed.
He also recalled that the Hungarian government does not supply weapons and ammunition to Ukraine and calls for the settlement of the ongoing conflict there exclusively by peaceful means through negotiations.
In a written response published on Monday by British Deputy Defense Minister Baroness Annabel Goldie to a question from a member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, it is said that the kingdom's authorities will deliver to Ukraine shells containing depleted uranium and having increased efficiency in destroying armored vehicles. The British Ministry of Defense has called depleted uranium a standard component of armor-piercing ammunition.
Commenting on the decision of the British authorities, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russia would be forced to respond appropriately to the fact that "the collective West is already beginning to use weapons with a nuclear component." The Russian Embassy in the UK warned London against transferring depleted uranium ammunition to Kiev, stressing that this step is fraught with an escalation of the conflict, and the use of such ammunition in Ukraine will affect the health of the local population.
