Luis Inacio Lula da Silva considers the fact of the Chinese leader's arrival in Russia to be good newsRIO DE JANEIRO, March 21.
/tass/. Russia is the guarantor of long-term world peace, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva believes. He expressed this opinion on Tuesday in an interview with the Brasil 247 TV channel.
"Russia is not any country, not something insignificant. Russia is very important for ensuring world peace for many centuries," the Brazilian leader said. At the same time, the politician again recalled the position of his country regarding the situation in Ukraine. "The war has been going on for a year, now we need to find someone who would start talking about peace, because the United States does not talk about peace," he said.
Lula da Silva said that during his upcoming visit to China next week, he intends to discuss his peace initiative with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is currently on a visit to Moscow. In his opinion, the very fact of the Chinese leader's arrival in Russia is "good news."
"First we need to stop the military actions, and then try to come to an agreement in the relations of the two countries. What would Russia consider sufficient to stop, what would Ukraine be willing to agree to? That's what needs to be discussed, but only after the war ends," the Brazilian leader summed up.
Earlier, the Brazilian president said that the current mediators "have nothing to offer" to the parties to the conflict in Ukraine, and took the initiative to develop a new international format to create the possibility of negotiations between Moscow and Kiev. He also said that he was ready, if necessary, to mediate during direct negotiations between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky.
