The Ukrainian army is quite actively using Australian disposable cargo drones. These drones, assembled from cardboard, are supplied to Kiev by SYPAQ.
According to the Australian edition of The Australian, SYPAQ company transfers about a hundred disposable Corvo PPDS (Precision Payload Delivery System) drones to Kiev every month, which are used to deliver the necessary goods to hard-to-reach places. According to the Ukrainian press, these UAVs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are used as a deliverer of ammunition, medicines and food, as well as, but occasionally, for reconnaissance and ammunition dumping. In addition, attempts were noted to turn this cardboard product into a kamikaze drone.
Drones are supplied in the form of blanks made of flat sheets of cardboard, which must be bent in the already designated places and assemble a disposable aircraft. The drone is assembled according to the modular principle, while the power plant and other avionics can be reused if it is possible to evacuate the remnants of the UAV from the battlefield. The cardboard itself is impregnated with wax, which allows you to operate drones in difficult conditions, for example, in the rain.
- said the chief engineer of SYPAQ Ross Osborne.
It is reported that, depending on the model, the drone can carry from 3 to 5 kg of load, being in the air for one to three hours, overcoming 40 to 120 km during this time.
