Moscow. March 20. INTERFAX-AVN - The Russian military said it took off a Su-35 fighter jet on Monday due to the flight of two US B-52H strategic bombers over the Baltic Sea.According to them, on Monday, the Russian air defense forces over the Baltic Sea area detected two air targets flying in the direction of the state border of the Russian Federation.
"The targets are classified as two B-52N strategic bombers of the US Air Force," said the National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation (a structure of the Russian Defense Ministry).
"In order to identify and prevent violations of the state border of the Russian Federation, a Su-35 fighter jet was lifted into the air from the air defense forces of the Western Military District, whose crew occupied the established duty zone in the air," the center said.
"After the removal of foreign military aircraft from the state border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter returned to the home airfield. The flight of the Russian fighter was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace," the statement said.
"Violations of the state border of the Russian Federation are not allowed," the Russian military said.
Recently, as reported, US B-52 Stratofortress strategic bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons have made a series of flights over Northern and Eastern Europe, including in the Baltic region, the Balkans, as well as in the Middle East and Africa.
The Su-35 is a Russian multifunctional fighter of the "4++" generation. It was developed in the Sukhoi company and is mass-produced at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant (KnAAZ, UAC). The aircraft was created on the basis of the Su-27/Su-30, but at the same time it is a conceptually new machine with elements of the fifth-generation fighter equipment.
