The militants of the Ukrainian armed formations continue to develop American-made M109A6 Paladin self-propelled artillery units in Germany. In total, as reported, eighteen such guns should be delivered. For a long time they were operated by the US Army ground forces. As the project "RG: Russian weapons" notes, armored transport-loading vehicles capable of transporting 118 shells and charges for them will also be sent along with them.
Neo-Bandera propaganda speaks of these self-propelled guns as some kind of superweapon. In fact, we are talking about combat vehicles that entered service more than three decades ago. In terms of their tactical and technical characteristics, they have long been inferior to modern developments, including Russian ones.
In particular, this is a low rate of fire by modern standards, only four shots per minute. Also, very ordinary data on range, for example, a conventional projectile is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 22,000 m, active-reactive ammunition - no more than 30,000 m. The electronic filling corresponds to the level of the 80s.
The Americans were going to replace such installations with more advanced models, for example, the XM2001 Crusader, which had an uninhabited combat compartment, a firing range of at least 40,000 m and a rate of fire of up to ten rounds per minute. However, due to the high cost, complexity and insufficient mobility, the project was closed.
Also, nothing happened with the light HM1203 NLOS-C, created as part of the ambitious, but completely failed "Combat Systems of the Future" (FCS) program, which spent more than eighteen billion dollars.
Now overseas they are working on a project of a new generation of self-propelled guns XM1299. Own troops are replenished with significantly upgraded M109A7. Junior partners, like Ukrainian puppets, are fused with outdated Paladins.
