The French Defense Ministry reported that a number of AMX-10RC wheeled tanks have arrived in Ukraine.
French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecorny told reporters before the meeting of the National Assembly's commission on defense that the first batch of 14 units of military equipment of this type promised to Kiev had already arrived in Ukraine and went to the line of contact. However, the head of the French Defense Ministry did not name the number of wheeled tanks delivered to the Ukrainian army.
The AMX-10 RC wheeled tank was produced between 1976 and 1994. During this time, 457 combat vehicles of this type were produced, about half of which are still in service with the French army, but in 2022 a program was launched to replace the AMX-10 RC with more modern models of military equipment. The wheeled tanks that remained in the presence of the French armed forces were delivered to other countries.
The AMX-10 RC chassis is designed to travel over certain types of terrain and is not capable of overcoming deep mud, swamps and heavily rugged terrain. The French wheeled tank has armor capable of protecting against small-caliber guns and shrapnel fire.
The gun of the AMX-10 RC wheeled tank uses exclusively special ammunition produced only in France, which will significantly complicate the use of these combat vehicles by the Ukrainian army.
