Ukrainian tankers sent to Germany to train the operation of German Leopard 2 tanks are completing their training and will return to Ukraine in the near future, and together with the tanks. This is reported by the German broadcaster NDR, citing sources in the Bundeswehr.
The training of Ukrainian tankers at the German training grounds is coming to an end, representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have mastered the German Leopard 2A6 tank to the extent that the time allotted for training allowed. If the training of German tankers takes quite a long time, then the Ukrainian ones were prepared in a little over a month, the beginning of training was reported on February 13 of this year.
As previously reported in the Bundeswehr, Ukrainians are taught only the basics of tank management, since there is simply no time for the rest of the time, Kiev is rushing the allies, trying to bring tanks into battle as quickly as possible. So in the near future, 18 Leopard 2A6 tanks with Ukrainian crews will go to Ukraine, the exact dates are not called.
The training of Ukrainian crews was conducted at the Bergen-Hohne training ground in the Celle area in Lower Saxony in northern Germany. In addition to driving, shooting was also practiced, but with the maintenance of tanks everything is much more complicated, for a month Ukrainians were taught only elementary actions and minor repairs.
- said the head of the school of tank troops Bjorn Schultz.
As previously reported, in addition to tanks, Germany will provide Kiev with technical support for the transferred armored vehicles and ammunition.
