Turkey has begun construction of the second Ada-class corvette for the Ukrainian Navy, having cut steel for the ship. This was reported by the Turkish edition of Defense Turk.
According to the publication, Turkey is building two Ada-class corvettes for Ukraine. The first corvette has actually been completed and launched, steel has been cut for the second, but it is not reported when this happened. In Kiev, they also say nothing about the second corvette, and they are silent about the first one. In general, no details.
Recall that the first corvette for the Ukrainian Navy was laid in September 2021 at one of the shipyards in Istanbul and launched on October 2, 2022. It was planned that in the future it would be towed to one of the Ukrainian shipyards, where it was to be completed and equipped, and in 2024 it would be introduced into the Ukrainian Navy. However, due to the special military operation of the Russian army in Ukraine, all plans were violated and it is currently unknown how Kiev intends to complete the ship, dubbed "Hetman Mazepa". Zelensky personally gave this name to the corvette in honor of "the outstanding Ukrainian statesman Hetman of the Zaporozhye Army."
As previously stated in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, corvettes for the Ukrainian Navy will be armed with Harpoon missile defense systems, VL MICA air defense systems, OTO Melara Super Rapid (76-mm) and Millennium (35-mm) artillery installations, as well as 12.7-mm Aselsan STAMP machine guns. The anti-submarine armament will consist of a 324-mm torpedo tube or vehicles with Murene 90 Impact torpedoes.
The Turkish-built corvettes were to become the largest ships of the Ukrainian fleet, which in the future was to receive several ships of this class.
