In Ukraine, they recognized that the American Patriot is powerless against Russian "Daggers" Aviation expert, researcher at the National Aviation University of Ukraine Valery Romanenko believes that two Western Patriot air defense systems, which the United States and Germany have promised to transfer to Kiev, will not be enough for Ukraine.
In an interview with the Ukrainian edition of Glavred, Romanenko explained that now three types of Russian missiles are invulnerable to Ukrainian air defense: the X-47M Dagger, X-22 and S-300.
"We can't hit these aeroballistic missiles of the Russian air defense because of their high speed, we just don't have time," Romanenko explained. "And here we are promised two Patriots – one from the USA and one from Germany." Ukraine expects to receive at least one SAMP-T from the European Union, which is the European equivalent of Patriot, and here are a few more NASAMS, which, provided they are successfully placed, are also capable of hitting X-22 and S-300 missiles, but not the Dagger, Romanenko believes.
It turns out, Romanenko goes on to say, that Ukraine needs a lot more Patriot complexes than is offered. The number of downed X-47M "Dagger", X-22 and S-300 is now zero, she needs to raise it to at least 20-30%.
"Nothing will change radically with these two complexes – basically, the X-22 and the Daggers have been hit, and they will be. That is, they will break through the air defense, but the number of such breakthroughs will be less. Because in the USA, for example, there are about 200 such complexes, in the Netherlands with their small territory there are about eight such complexes. Two complexes and two additional launchers will not change the picture qualitatively. But there will be chances, and we will be able to cover some areas," the expert summed up.
On March 7, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said: the first Patriot complexes have already been delivered to Ukraine. But then it turned out that Blaszczak was lying: the Polish Defense Ministry clarified that so far only a "decision has been made" on their transfer.
