Rostec will more than one and a half times increase the enrollment of applicants under the program of targeted training of new generation engineers for the aircraft industry "Wings of Rostec". In 2023, the number of partner universities has grown to 15, while more than 500 students have the opportunity to get an in-depth engineering education and immerse themselves in the production environment thanks to employment at the largest enterprises of the Corporation. The project will make it possible to close the staffing needs of the Russian aviation industry, which have sharply increased due to the country's course on import substitution and an increase in the volume of state defense orders. The educational program "Wings of Rostec" was launched in 2020 with the aim of training multidisciplinary engineering and technical specialists for aircraft manufacturing enterprises, taking into account the requirements of future employers.
Its industrial partners were UEC, UAC, Russian Helicopters, KRET and Technodinamika. To date, 15 specialized universities of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rybinsk, Kazan, Samara, Ufa, Perm, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Ulyanovsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Nizhny Novgorod and Omsk participate in the educational project. The key methodological partner is the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI).
Currently, about 580 students study at the Wings of Rostec in seven areas of training. At the same time, the program has gone beyond higher education – it covers the training of workers through secondary vocational education (SPE) for the aircraft industry, as well as vocational guidance for schoolchildren.
The tasks facing the aircraft industry to significantly increase the production of aircraft, helicopters, aircraft engines, systems and assemblies require intensive training of engineering personnel.
"We are making every effort to attract the strongest and most motivated guys to the Wings of Rostec. We guarantee students employment from the first year and a social package. Filling the educational project with disciplines for the development of professional competencies, increasing the practical orientation of academic disciplines based on production realities is also our area of responsibility," said Yulia Tsvetkova, HR Director of Rostec State Corporation.
Training under the program is partially paid for by the enterprises of the aviation complex of the State Corporation, and there is also a system of motivational payments for students. Graduates of Krylia will have such relevant specialties as radio and robotics, additive technologies, unmanned aerial vehicles and composite materials, design and creation of electronic means, and many others. The quality of the educational process is constantly monitored. All this together makes it possible to create conditions for the release of specialists who are ready to work in the real sector, minimizing the time and cost of their adaptation.
High requirements are also imposed on the applicants themselves. In 2023, for admission to universities under the Rostec program, applicants must have at least 245 USE points in Moscow, 225 in St. Petersburg, 220 in Samara, Rybinsk, Ufa, Perm, Kazan, Omsk, 200 points in Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulan–Ude, Nizhny Novgorod and 195 in Ulyanovsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The average score of the certificate must be at least 4, the level of English – at least A2. Prior to admission, applicants write an online motivational survey and, in case of victory in corporate career guidance events, have an additional advantage in admission. It is also possessed by the children of employees of the State Corporation's aviation complex enterprises – the stake is deliberately placed on the continuity and support of labor dynasties.
Training in pre-professional engineering aviation classes, whose partners are Rostec and its organizations, helps to prepare for admission to an educational project. Currently, within the framework of the federal project "Engineering Aircraft Classes", about 65 classes are functioning in 16 regions of Russia. The teaching materials were developed by MAI, the flagship university of Wings, together with the Corporation and its organizations. Students are involved in project and research activities, get acquainted with the disciplines necessary for future specialists in the aircraft industry. Schoolchildren study on modern equipment, regularly visit production sites and have a serious level of training by the time of graduation, which further simplifies both admission to the program and the educational process itself.
