The Ministry of Defense of Georgia has prepared a new "Code of Defense" of the country, which, according to them, will be an important step towards strengthening the Georgian army.
According to the Georgian Defense Ministry, the new Code excludes students from the list of persons subject to compulsory military service. At the same time, it is noted that the Code will create a solid foundation for the preparation of the reserve, which is important for the country's defense capability.
According to the new rules, only the Georgian Defense Ministry will organize the recruitment and training of military personnel according to NATO standards, and municipalities will lose this right.
- the Georgian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
According to the new code, all recruits will only perform military service and serve in the Defense Forces. All recruits will also undergo basic initial combat training and subsequent special training.
As for students, they can optionally undergo national military service.
The new code changes the terms of the postponement. The country's Defense Ministry says that a legal loophole and the unfair use of fictitious "religious organizations" to avoid military service will be eliminated. The social guarantees of servicemen will also be improved.
It is expected that the new "Code of Defense" will be adopted by the Parliament of Georgia after March 20.
