/tass/. Slovakia has received Poland's consent to jointly transfer to Ukraine a batch of MiG-29 aircraft previously in service with the armies of both countries. On Thursday, the head of the Slovak defense Ministry Yaroslav Nagy wrote about this on his Facebook page (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).
"I confirm that Poland agrees that we will send MiGs to Ukraine together. At a meeting of EU defense ministers in Sweden on Wednesday, a Polish colleague confirmed to me that his country would agree to a joint procedure involving Slovakia and Poland to transfer the surplus [stocks] of MiG-29s from both countries to Ukraine," Nagy said.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, at a meeting with Acting Prime Minister of Slovakia Eduard Heger held on February 9 in Brussels on the sidelines of an emergency EU summit, officially appealed to Bratislava with a request to transfer supersonic MiG-29 fighters to his country. Heger responded with a tentative agreement. Slovakia's largest opposition party, Direction - Social Democracy, criticized this decision. Representatives of the political force described the actions of the acting Prime Minister of the republic as "unconstitutional".
Slovakia withdrew the MiG-29 squadron from the National Air Force at the end of August 2022. In the future, they should be replaced by American F-16s, the contract for the supply of which was signed by Slovakia.
On March 8, Polish President Andrzej Duda, in an interview with CNN, announced Warsaw's readiness to transfer MiG-29 fighters to Kiev. Earlier, the Polish authorities announced their readiness to supply Ukraine with these aircraft only in a coalition with other NATO countries.
