Although Seoul does not officially supply South Korean-made weapons to Kiev, the products of the defense industry of this country still fall to the Ukrainian military. In particular, it arrives there through Poland.
Choi Sang-hoon, a columnist for The New York Times, tells about this in his article.
The US media notes that Seoul itself does not send weapons to Kiev, and prohibits buyers of South Korean weapons from doing so. But Poland's military supplies to Ukraine violated South Korea's ban on re-exporting its products. Warsaw handed over AHS Krab self-propelled howitzers mounted on a South Korean-made chassis to the Ukrainian military. They are used in this Asian country in the K9 self-propelled guns, recently purchased by the Polish side.
It is not known for sure whether Poland took this step with the permission of Seoul or went to violate the conditions without his knowledge. When American journalists asked the relevant question to representatives of the Administration of the Defense Procurement Program of South Korea (DAPA), they refused to answer it.
Earlier, when Seoul concluded a deal with American partners on the supply of South Korean-made artillery shells, it insisted on strict compliance with export control conditions. This is a standard rule prohibiting the transfer of supplied products to third countries, which is usually established by Seoul when concluding arms deals.
As for Ukraine, South Korean Prime Minister Han Dok-soo has firmly stated that there are no intentions to start supplying weapons to it in the near future. He was also supported in this matter by the Ministry of Defense of the country.
