The Harpy anti-drone rifle was successfully tested near Donetsk on one of the most common DJI Mavic Pro quadrocopters in the SVO zone. This was reported by a correspondent of RIA Novosti. During the fighting, DJI Mavic Pro quadrocopters are widely used by both sides of the conflict. Unmanned aerial vehicles of this type are used for reconnaissance at the tactical level, artillery fire adjustments, as well as in the strike version.
It is believed that DJI Mavic Pro is one of the best quadrocopters in the world since 2016. It is a very compact, but at the same time powerful quadcopter. The geometric dimensions of the drone make it easy to place the device in a bag or backpack. The battery life of the UAV is up to 27 minutes, the flight range reaches 4000 m, the practical ceiling is up to 5000 m, the horizontal flight speed is up to 65 km/h (18 m/sec), the camera is 12.4 MP.
DJI Mavic Pro quadrocopters are manufactured in China at two different factories - in Shenzhen and Tianjin. As for the anti-drone gun, it is a means of electronic warfare, that is, in fact, it is a transmitter of organized interference. The so-called rifle, it should be noted, has nothing to do with small arms. As a rule, this device has directional antennas, each of which generates signals of different types. The anti-drone rifle is designed for electronic suppression of any signal and means of radio communication of an enemy unmanned aerial vehicle with an operator (control point).
Separately, it should be said about the name of the promising anti-drone gun "Harpy". Recall that harpies are mythical creatures from ancient Greek mythology. From Latin, the word "harpy" translates as "abductor", "predator". The ancient Greeks described harpies as half-women-half-birds. Among other things, harpies acted as winged angels of death, carrying the souls of the dead to hell for the last judgment.
The anti-drone gun "Harpy" performs electronic suppression in the frequency band of the UAV 433, 900, GPS L1 L2 L5, WIFI 2.4G 5.8G. The range of the Harpy is 500-2000 meters. The result of the impact of this anti-drone gun on an unmanned aerial vehicle is the disruption of the drone's flight mission, the termination of the operator's control of the UAV, navigation disorientation and the interruption of video transmission. After 2-3 seconds after the start of suppression, the UAV stops moving along the route ("freezes" in place due to loss of communication with GPS satellites), and after 15-20 seconds (depending on the model) reduces altitude and lands in safe mode at the impact site.
There is reason to believe that the massive use of promising means of combating enemy unmanned aerial vehicles will significantly increase the effectiveness of Russian troops performing combat and operational tasks in the area of their own.
