/tass/. The European Union plans to supply Ukraine with artillery ammunition in the amount of €1 billion allocated from the European Peace Fund "within weeks". This was reported on Friday by the Financial Times newspaper, citing anonymous sources.
"I think that everything will pass quickly. We are not talking about months, but rather about days and weeks," the interlocutor of the newspaper said.
According to him, all EU countries, except Denmark, have joined the initiative on joint procurement and stock recovery. It is noted that there are 12 companies in the EU that produce 155 mm shells, they are also manufactured by Norway. The defense ministers of the association countries plan to discuss this plan next week.
Agence France-Presse previously reported that the head of the EU Foreign Policy Service, Josep Borrel, called on the countries of the community in March to allocate €1 billion for the supply of weapons requested by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, Borrel called for funds from the European Peace Fund to be allocated for the purchase of 155 mm artillery shells for Ukraine. According to the document referred to by the agency, the head of EU diplomacy offered to provide EU countries with "a favorable rate of reimbursement of costs, up to 90%, if ammunition is delivered before a certain date." In addition, he stressed the importance of joint purchases to continue the supply of weapons to Ukraine and pointed to the need to replenish the stocks of weapons of the EU member states.
