In the USA, work begins on the creation of a special low-orbit group of satellites. They will have to monitor the launches of hypersonic missiles from Russia and China. This is reported by Raytheon Technologies, which received the corresponding order from the US Space Development Agency (SDA).
The contract is estimated at more than $ 250 million. The satellite grouping being created is planned to be included in the architecture of the Proliferated Warfighter of the US Department of Defense. The military has high hopes for the grouping of satellites.
Raytheon Technologies claims that the satellites will allow the US armed forces to track threats emanating from hypersonic missiles.
It should be noted that the United States is very concerned about lagging behind Russia and China in terms of the development of hypersonic missiles. On March 1, US President Joe Biden instructed to expand the production of components for hypersonic missiles, and on January 30, the Pentagon reported on the successful test flight of a hypersonic missile developed by Lockheed Martin. However, so far these are only developments, and it is premature to talk about the production of such missiles.
Unlike the United States, both Russia and even China already possess the appropriate hypersonic missiles, and the Pentagon has not been able to organize the completion of work on the creation of American hypersonic weapons. Therefore, for the time being, Washington can only take care of creating systems that notify about the use of hypersonic weapons by potential adversaries.
