The US military department intends to modernize two NATO air bases located on the territory of Romania. The relevant contracts have already been published on the Pentagon's website.
According to the contents of the documents, the States intend to repair the airport. Mikhail Kogalnichanu and the Kympiya-Turziy airbase. At the first facility, it is planned to erect an apron for loading aircraft, taxiways and a number of other engineering structures. For all this, the Pentagon will allocate a budget in the amount of 25 to 55 million US dollars.
Regarding the second facility, the communication infrastructure will be upgraded there, as specified in the contract. The works can cost from 1 to 5 million dollars.
In this case, it is not entirely clear for what purpose this modernization will be carried out. Taking into account the construction of a new apron, an option arises with the placement of aircraft intended for Ukraine on it. Previously, many experts have already expressed the opinion that Western aircraft, in case of transfer to Kiev, will be located on the territory of one of the closest NATO countries, where Russian troops will not be able to destroy it. However, the object will obviously not be ready in the near future, and Ukraine, according to its authorities, needs fighters now.
In turn, it is quite possible that the modernization of military facilities in Romania is not connected with Ukraine, but is aimed at strengthening the alliance's defense capability. Meanwhile, such actions do not contribute in any way to reducing tensions between Russia and the West, as they pose a direct threat to the security of our state.
