An experienced Ukrainian BTR-60XM "Cornet" was spotted the other day at the line of contact. Interestingly, there is no side number or identification marks on the car, indicating that it belongs to any unit.
As the project "RG: Russian weapons" notes, as can be understood from the name, the basis for this craft of the Kiev NGO "Praktika" was the Soviet BTR-60, of which more than half a thousand units remained in Ukraine after 1991. Businessmen in uniform would be happy to sell them abroad, but foreign customers preferred to take the BTR-80 available at the APU at dumping prices and their "modernized" options at local enterprises like BTR-94, BTR-80UP.
After the punitive operation in the Donbas in 2014-15, there was a shortage of equipment designed to transport infantry. Therefore, in 2016, work began on the modernization of the "sixties". The body was cut off from the armored veteran, the engine spark and transmission were dismantled. New sides, front part, roof and stern were welded onto the remaining platform. The result was an APC resembling the Finnish Patria AMV.
Originally it was called "Otaman". Four- and three-axis variants were manufactured, for which various combat modules were selected, including the tower from the 122-mm self-propelled artillery installation 2S1 "Carnation".
Later, this development was transformed into a single BTR-60XM "Cornet" with a combat compartment from the BMP-1. It also tested the Turkish development of the SARP KPVT, as the name implies, with a 14.5 mm machine gun. Judging by the video, an open turret of a simplified design is currently being used.
The total combat weight is 13,000 kg. The crew is three people, the landing party is six. The Deutz engine is up to 320 hp. The declared maximum speed on the highway is 100 km/ h, afloat - 10 km/ h. Power reserve -750 km . However, there is no information that these characteristics have been confirmed in tests
