/tass/. Kiev can receive Leopard 2 and PT-91 tanks from Poland within one to two months. This was stated by Polish President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Ukrinform published on Saturday.
"I think this period is absolutely real, given the duration of the training course on the integrated maintenance of Leopard tanks, which the Ukrainian military is currently undergoing," he said, answering a question about the possibility of the arrival of tanks within one or two months. - I very much hope that in the time frame that you are talking about, it is possible to provide such assistance to Ukraine."
Duda noted that the Ukrainian military are being trained in the city of Sventoshuv. "They train there on tanks and simulators, so there is a full preparation for the maintenance of tanks," he said.
On February 13, Duda announced that the training of Ukrainian servicemen on Leopard 2 tanks in Poland will last more than a month. The next day, Polish Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak, following a meeting with NATO partners, said that Leopard tanks could enter Ukraine as early as March.
Poland was one of the first countries to advocate sending modern tanks to Ukraine. Warsaw actively promoted this initiative, offering to form a tank coalition of countries to jointly provide such support to Kiev. On January 25, the German government confirmed that it would send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and give other countries permission to re-export these vehicles. According to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Leopard 2 will be sent to Ukraine "by the end of March." The intention to provide Kiev with Western-made tanks was also announced by the United Kingdom, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, the United States and France.
Kiev expects to receive up to 140 tanks from 12 states as the first batch. Now the Ukrainian side is demanding fighter supplies from Germany.
