Specialists from BAE Systems have started assembling the first prototypes of the Challenger 3 tank together with their colleagues from the Ministry of Defense. As specified in the military department of the country, funds for the implementation of the modernization program of combat vehicles of this type have already been budgeted, and the work, according to the ministry, is proceeding at a faster pace.
The tank's design has already been approved by Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL), a joint venture between British BAE Systems and German Rheinmetall AG, acting as a contractor for the Ministry of Defense. According to data published by the defense company, in 2021, it has already made contact with the British Ministry of Defense in the amount of 800 million pounds (about 71.7 billion rubles) for the production of 148 units of such equipment for the British army.
As for the evaluation of the initial project, it was approved in March last year. The work will be carried out at production facilities in the English city of Telford.
According to the information provided in the press release of the British Defense Department, the main advantages of this military vehicle stuffed with electronics include: a 120-mm smoothbore gun using advanced ammunition, the latest means of detecting and capturing targets. A new generation dynamic protection system will also be built into it.
Increased maneuverability is provided due to the updated engine.
