Despite existing for decades under sanctions, North Korea is increasing its military capabilities. It is no longer a secret that the country has its own nuclear weapons and is constantly improving its means of delivery.
As the German magazine Focus notes, at the recent military parade in Pyongyang, the DPRK demonstrated an impressive arsenal of weapons, which is becoming an increasing threat to the United States.
According to the publication, a large number of intercontinental ballistic missiles, including new developments, were demonstrated at the parade held on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the DPRK armed forces. The parade became a signal for the whole world and, above all, for Washington, Focus notes.
However, many experts have questions about what Pyongyang's real military capabilities are.
The publication notes that over the past year, the DPRK has conducted test launches of more than 70 missiles that can carry nuclear warheads. Pyongyang also has intercontinental ballistic missiles "Hwasong-17" in its missile arsenal, which Washington is most concerned about, since they have a flight range of at least 5,500 kilometers. According to some reports, the DPRK has more "long-range" missiles of the KN-08 type, the estimated range of which is 10,000 km. Washington is afraid that at this rate Pyongyang will be able to reach the necessary level in order to deliver missiles to the west coast of the United States and bypass the country's air defenses.
Focus writes that the United States has 44 ground-based interceptors that can destroy Korean missiles in flight. However, if Pyongyang manages to install four warheads on one missile, it will exceed the capabilities of the American missile defense system, which is a serious threat to the United States.
At the same time, the publication clarifies that so far the DPRK has not mastered a number of technologies that would allow their missiles to reach the territory of the United States without hindrance.
