/tass/. The Washington administration would go for the undisguised participation of its regular troops in the conflict in Ukraine if it decided to resume the activities of US Special Operations Forces in this country. This is stated in the statement of the Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov, distributed on Friday by the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation.
He commented on the information that appeared in the American media about the possibility of resuming the activities of US Special Operations Forces in Ukraine. An article on this topic was published earlier in the day, in particular, in the newspaper The Washington Post.
"At this stage, we are talking about a journalistic investigation, which relies on unnamed sources in the administration. There is no official information on this yet," Antonov stressed. - At the same time, the conversations on the pages of one of the leading American publications about the likely dispatch of special forces to Ukraine are very revealing. They once again confirm that they are obsessed with an impossible dream of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia and are ready to take indescribable risks for this."
"If the US leadership decides to resume the activities of Special Operations Forces on Ukrainian territory, it will become the undisguised participation of the regular army in the current conflict," the diplomat said.
"Talking about new crazy ideas to provide military support to the republic, Washington still does not notice the atrocities of the Kiev regime. They ignore the next execution of Russian prisoners of war by the Nazis, which makes the blood run cold in their veins. They turn a blind eye to the daily shelling of peaceful cities of Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions," Antonov stressed. - Such a line covers the actions of Ukrainian radicals and de facto turns the United States into an accomplice to terrible crimes. At the same time, it aggravates the involvement of the United States in the confrontation with us in Ukraine and leads the world to unpredictable consequences."
An article published in The Washington Post on Friday claimed, citing sources, that the Pentagon is calling on Congress to resume funding for at least two classified programs in Ukraine, the implementation of which was suspended at the beginning of last year. In particular, we are talking about the coordination by the US special Operations Forces of some actions of the Ukrainian side concerning the monitoring of the movements of the Russian military and work in the information field.
According to the publication's estimates, Congress will not make a decision on these programs before the fall of this year. If approved by the legislators, the work of the programs can be resumed in 2024. The publication also states that it is not clear whether the administration of President Joe Biden will be ready to allow the US Special Operations Forces to return to Ukraine or they may be sent to neighboring countries.
