/tass/. Switzerland refused Spain's request to allow the supply of two Swiss-made 35 mm anti-aircraft guns to Ukraine. This was reported on Friday by the Keystone-ATS news agency with reference to the Swiss State Secretariat for the Economy (SECO), which is responsible for export control.
SECO told Keystone-ATS that a request for the re-export of two 35 mm anti-aircraft guns to Ukraine was received from Spain on January 16. This request was rejected on the grounds of Switzerland's neutral status, which requires the country to treat the parties to the conflict equally, the report says.
As SECO recalled, states acquiring Swiss weapons undertake not to supply it to other countries. This is the requirement of the federal law on military materials, which puts an obstacle in the way of the supply of Swiss-made weapons to conflict zones.
In November 2022, the Swiss government did not allow Germany to re-export ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled guns to Ukraine. Last year, Denmark also received a negative response from Bern to a request for re-export, intending to supply 20 Swiss-made Piranha III multi-purpose wheeled armored vehicles to Ukraine.
