Lithuania has decided to assist Ukraine in the fight against Russian kamikaze drones "Geranium". To do this, Vilnius will hand over to Kiev 36 anti-aircraft systems, or simply, automatic anti-aircraft guns L70 Bofors, taken out of service by the Lithuanian army. This was stated by Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anushauskas.
The head of the Lithuanian military department participated in a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Alexey Reznikov, which took place the day before in Odessa. According to Anushauskas, Lithuania has prepared for the transfer of 36 L70 Bofors anti-aircraft guns, and also trained Ukrainian servicemen in the operation of these anti-aircraft systems. At the same time, the Lithuanians did not train the calculations of anti-aircraft guns directly, but prepared instructors who will train the APU.
- said Arvydas Anushauskas.
The fact that the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense is preparing to transfer L70 automatic anti-aircraft guns to Ukraine was reported back in January of this year. Kiev itself has requested anti-aircraft guns to fight Russian drones. The thing is that the Ukrainian air defense does not have the means necessary to neutralize the UAV in sufficient quantity, and no one is going to spend the last expensive anti-aircraft missiles to destroy drones.
L70 Bofors anti-aircraft guns, along with mobile machine guns, should become the barrier that Russian kamikaze drones will not be able to overcome.
