/tass/. Finland does not plan to directly transfer tanks to Ukraine until it joins NATO. This was reported on Thursday by The Wall Street Journal newspaper with reference to a high-ranking representative of the North Atlantic Alliance.
According to him, the Finnish authorities have made it clear that direct deliveries of tanks to Ukraine are likely to be postponed until the country officially joins NATO. At the same time, even after joining the alliance, Finland, which has about 240 tanks at its disposal, will be able to transfer only a small number of them. The publication draws attention to the fact that at the moment Finland's accession to NATO is postponed due to Turkey's position.
Earlier, Finnish Defense Minister Mikko Savola said at a press conference that the republic would participate in the supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine, but its contribution would be small. The head of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic did not specify how many tanks Finland can send to Ukraine. He also stressed that the country is ready to participate both in the supply of weapons and in the training of Ukrainian soldiers in the management of tanks and their maintenance.
The German government earlier announced its decision to send 14 Leopard 2A6 tanks to Ukraine. In addition, Berlin allowed other countries to re-export. On February 7, the German Cabinet approved the delivery of 178 Leopard 1A5 tanks to Kiev.
