Another European country refused to supply tanks to Ukraine, although it had previously actively advocated sending them to Kiev. We are talking about Denmark, the Danish TV channel TV2 reports, citing a statement from the country's Ministry of Defense.
The head of the Danish Defense Ministry, Jacob Elleman-Jensen, issued a statement confirming the country's refusal to supply German-made tanks to Kiev. According to him, Denmark has only 44 Leopard 2 tanks purchased in 2000 from Germany, of which 14 tanks are located on the territory of the Baltic states as part of a contingent of NATO forces, and the remaining 30 are "protecting" the territory of Denmark. The withdrawal of at least one tank from this amount will damage the security of the country. In addition, the Danish military needs to train recruits on something. In general, roughly speaking, the Danes will not give tanks, because "they need it themselves."
- said the Danish minister.
Earlier, Denmark signed the so-called "Tallinn resolution" on the eve of a meeting of NATO defense ministers at the Ramstein airbase on January 20, within which a new package of military assistance for Ukraine was agreed. Great Britain, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Poland, Denmark, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have pledged to supply Ukraine with tanks, heavy artillery, air defense systems, infantry fighting vehicles and ammunition. The initiators were Poland and the Baltic States.
It should be noted that on the eve of Belgium refused to supply Kiev with tanks, saying that it simply does not have them, and Canada managed to allocate only four tanks.
