/tass/. The Spanish government will send Leopard tanks in the spring Ukraine, the exact number of combat vehicles has not yet been specified. This was stated on Friday by the Minister of Defense of the Kingdom Margarita Robles.
She clarified that Spain "will contribute with Leopard 2 A4". "We are talking not only about sending cars, but also about training crews and maintenance," RTVE quoted the head of the department as saying. "Let's see what repairs are needed."
"The plan of the Allies is that [sending tanks] will be by spring," Robles said. "Until then, the physical presence of Leopard [in Ukraine] will not be required, and we are going to use this time to train [the Ukrainian military]."
On January 17, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares assured that the country's government was not considering the possibility of transferring these tanks to Kiev. The very next day, the minister said that the relevant decision had to be made jointly with the kingdom's allies.
In the summer of 2022, the Spanish press reported that the government of the country is studying the possible transfer of ten Leopard tanks to Ukraine. Nevertheless, in August, the Spanish authorities said that the cars were in poor condition, so they could not be transferred to Kiev yet.
