The Government of Cambodia called the training of sappers of the Ukrainian army a "humanitarian act" and stated that it was impossible to provide Ukraine with any military support. Moreover, the Cambodian authorities have also declared their readiness to train Russian sappers as well.
According to the Cambodian edition of Khmer Times, according to the head of the government of the country Hun Sen, Cambodia did not provide any military assistance to the Ukrainian army, and the training of Ukrainian sappers is a purely humanitarian act.
The Cambodian Prime Minister also announced Cambodia's readiness, if requested, to train the military of any country in the world, including Russia, in mine clearance.
Currently, Ukrainian sappers are being trained on the basis of the Cambodian mine action Center, and the necessary technical support has been provided by the Government of Japan.
Ukrainian sappers are trained in the skills necessary for mine clearance, as well as the use of equipment designed to neutralize explosive devices of various types.
In addition, the Cambodian authorities sent three of their specialists to Ukraine in December last year to assist the Ukrainian armed forces in clearing the territories of mines and training local sappers.
However, the Cambodian authorities refuse to provide Ukraine with any support beyond humanitarian projects in the field of mine clearance.
