/tass/. Belgium has announced that it will provide Kiev with a €92 million military aid package, which will include cars, portable anti-aircraft systems, small arms and light anti-tank weapons. This was announced on Friday by Belgian Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder and Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. However, as the RTBF TV channel notes, the kingdom abandoned the idea of supplying old armored vehicles due to the high cost and complexity of its redemption and modernization.
"Belgium will allocate to Ukraine the most significant package of military assistance since February last year, amounting to €92 million," De Croo said. "The program includes vehicles, portable anti-aircraft missile systems (MANPADS), anti-tank grenade launchers, machine guns and assault rifles, which the state will buy from FN Herstal," Dedonder added.
"At the same time, the idea to supply [Kiev] with decommissioned heavy armored vehicles, which have already been partially sold to private companies, needs to be repurchased, restored and modernized, was rejected due to the excessively high cost," RTBF notes, citing sources.
These arms supplies to Kiev will be Belgium's contribution to the package of military assistance agreed in Ramstein by NATO and several partner countries of the alliance in order to organize an offensive against Russian troops.
