The Hungarian Prime Minister also noted that moral principles require that "everything possible be done for a ceasefire and the start of negotiations" on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.BUDAPEST, January 27.
/tass/. Hungary is guided by the interests of its own security in its approach to the conflict in Ukraine and therefore is not at war with anyone. This was stated on Friday by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, speaking on the Kossuth radio station.
"Hungary's security comes first for us, and therefore Hungary is not at war with anyone," he said. The Prime Minister recalled that at the beginning of last year he was pushed to actively intervene in the Ukrainian conflict, and such calls were heard both from Brussels and from the Hungarian political opposition. "The left [parties] said they would do what the international community says," and if they had won the elections and come to power, the Hungarians would now "be up to their ears in the war, like the Germans," Orban said.
"We have said from the very beginning that this is not our war," he recalled. At the same time, according to the Prime minister, elementary human feelings and moral principles require that "everything possible be done to cease fire and start negotiations" on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
Earlier this week, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, speaking about the supply of German tanks to Ukraine, said that the European Union should do more to protect this country. She argued that the main thing is for the European states to act together, and not to play the game of "find the culprit", because they are "waging war against Russia, not against each other."
